Check the frequency on the key with the seller.

If its the same it will almost certainly work.

Assuming obviously it is not a faulty one ( lots of them out there ).

Remember you will either need to use the PATS chip out of one of your spare keys ( non-remote) with the new remote key as this will be needed to actually start the car.

If you dont have any spare keys then things get a lot more complicated. ( and expensive ).

IIRC, MK2 Galaxy keys are operated using the frequency - SEIMENS 433.92MHz 5WK4 790/97/98 These numbers are very, very important because even though the Sharan and Alhambra keys are identical, the frequency they operate are different. In other words, totally useless for the Galaxy.

If buying from the internet, then confirm with the seller what the frequency is.

Once you have the correct key fob, the blade must be of the 'HAA' variety (embossed on the blade).

However, since you only have the non key-fob key, you will need these reprogrammed either by the dealer (very expensive, as you already know) or a locksmith which specializes in vehicle key-fob programming.

P.S gregers, how did you manage to read the small print on the key - i had to get my mrs and the two of us standing on chair to get close to the light on the ceiling!
